VN 21/60 Junior Systems and Infrastructure Engineers (2 ECEP Posts)

Within the Computer and Storage Management Competence Area (CSM CA) of the Generic Systems and Infrastructure (GSI) Division, the Junior Computer Systems Architecture Engineer and  Junior Cloud Engineer will support the full lifecycle of the computer and storage systems infrastructure. The post holders activities will include the analysis, design, development and testing of distributed hardware and system software.

Duties

  • Design, prototype, develop small to medium size IT infrastructure services in alignment with IT roadmaps and systems development life cycles by translating requirements into technical specifications, creating detailed solution designs and coordinating the construction, installation, configuration as well as the testing of IT systems;
  • Provide the most appropriate technology on the market for future developments and evolution of the operational environments via technical interactions with IT vendors and experts and by prototyping of case studies of different IT solutions with external industry support;
  • Contribute to the generation of technical baseline documentation, involving requirements engineering of the related services, interface specifications, design of functions and software applications;
  • Provide support to engineering change proposals, configuration and quality control activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

An (anticipated) university degree in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Information Technology, System Engineering). Please note, the qualification must be awarded prior to the contract being issued.


LANGUAGES

The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French.

Duties

Skills and Experience

  • Good knowledge of IT systems architecture components and technology involving:
    • Virtualization
    • Containerization
    • Cloud based solutions (on premises, hybrid, public)
    • Distributed systems
  • Clear IT customer/service driven perspective, preferably based on ITIL methodology;
  • Strong motivation to develop towards full professionalism in the areas of system engineering of IT infrastructure services in an operational 24/7 environment;
  • Readiness to learn and expand one’s own knowledge, combined with excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work in a team.

Employment Conditions

The initial contract will be under the EUMETSAT Early Career Employee Programme (ECEP), for two (2) years with grade A1. Subject to successful performance, a further contract of 5 years’ duration will be awarded in a post graded A2-A4. Additional contracts may be awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of follow-up contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63, and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT. Further information on the Early Career Employee Programme (ECEP) can be found here.

The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 4842 per month (net of internal tax) which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
