VN 22/24 Network Security Engineer

In the EUMETSAT matrix organisation, the Technical and Scientific Support (TSS) department provides support to the development and operations of EUMETSAT satellite systems, in particular ground systems, and contributes to the operational management of the cross-organisational Information Security Management System.

As a member of the Security Team of the Generic Systems and Infrastructure (GSI) division, the Network Security Engineer will supervise, coordinate and deliver network security services for operational and corporate networks, and support network security aspects of the development of new ground system networks. The Network Security Engineer, together with other members of the Security Team, will drive the implementation of cutting-edge network security solutions from an extensive ISMS roadmap.

Duties

The duties will be as follows:

  • Supervise, coordinate and verify the implementation and operation of the Information Security Management System (ISMS), with main focus on network security;
  • Deliver operations-grade network security services and provide monitoring and reporting services. Deliver input to network security policies and support secure network design processes across the organisation;
  • Organise, execute, evaluate and follow-up information security assessments;
  • Identify, report and follow-up on relevant information security risks;
  • Provide expertise on information security requirements, architecture definition and implementation, to the development and/or procurement of new systems and security solutions;
  • Act as point of contact for relevant information security-related aspects;
  • Maintain appropriate contacts with special interest groups relating to information security, and/or other specialist forums;
  • Provide information security training and contribute to security awareness initiatives at organisational level.

QUALIFICATIONS

A university degree in a relevant discipline e.g. Computer and Network Security.

CISSP, CCIE Security or a similar certification are an advantage.


LANGUAGES

The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French.

Duties

The duties will be as follows:

Skills and Experience

In-depth knowledge and proven experience of:

  • Implementation, operation and maintenance of an Information Security Management System (ISMS), including security solutions, preferably in 24/7 high-availability, operational/production environments.
  • In-depth experience with network security infrastructure is a must (CISCO and Palo Alto as a minimum). Experience with Software Defined Networking (SDN) is an advantage.
  • Engineering of IT Security solutions for networks, covering the whole engineering process from use case and requirements definition to verification and validation, including security assessments on operational/production systems;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and team working skills;
  • Critical thinking with a methodical, proactive and organised approach to work combined with an aptitude for detail and accuracy;
  • Excellent time management and demonstrated ability to work efficiently under pressure / in emergency situations.

Employment Conditions

The initial contract will be of 4 years’ duration, with subsequent 5 year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of follow-up contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT.
This post is graded A2/A4 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 6421 per month (net of internal tax) which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
