Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) is EUMETSAT’s next generation of Geostationary weather satellites and will provide an unprecedented 4D weather monitoring capability, through an evolution of the imaging service, a new lightning imaging service, and a new atmospheric sounding service providing measurements in the infrared and ultraviolet.
The MTG System Manager reports directly to the MTG Programme Manager and Head of Mandatory Geostationary Earth Orbit Programmes (GEO) Division and is responsible for:
Management of the MTG system teams (System Engineering, Operations Preparation, System Integration Verification and Validation, IFCT Coordination, LEOP services) with clear identification of milestones, outputs, accompanied by assessment of feasibility;
Take the role of the final technical authority in the change control and waiver/deviation process, including decision on technical issues or trade-off analyses;
Ensure end-to-end performance of the technical system;
Liaising with meteorological scientists as relevant to ensure the system implementation is fulfilling the Users needs as expressed by the End User Requirements Document and targeting the users expectations;
Identification of risk items, definition of mitigation actions and follow-up of system level activities;
Interacting with the Technical Scientific Support and Operations Departments with a view to optimise the technical efficiency of the programme execution;
Consolidating and maintaining system requirements and budgets, their apportionment to the programme elements, their traceability to end-user requirements, and compliance to the MTG external interfaces;
Planning and leading in a consistent and effective way the MTG System Integration Verification and Validation Phases, this includes:
Monitoring the development of the Space and Ground Segments, defining corrective actions when needed to preserve the system integration, verification and validation objectives;
Defining, preparing, implementing and leading all detailed plans for the system activities and test until the handover of the MTG system to Operation Department;
Support to Programme Management and participation in external and internal meetings, including support to EUMETSAT Council and other Delegate Bodies.
A University degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline or comparable qualifications in an engineering or science field is required.
The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French.

Skills and Experience
Demonstrated experience of at least ten years in space system development, IVV and operations of large and complex systems, preferably for Earth Observation;
Proven managerial and leadership experience with the ability to manage complex system developments, set-up and manage technical development teams accordingly, and balance multiple constraints;
Ability to effectively interface with internal and external partners, stakeholders and industry;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, combined with good team working skills.
The initial contract will be of 4 years’ duration, with subsequent 5 year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of follow-up contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT. This post is graded A4/A5 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 8512 per month (net of internal tax) which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
